Ramana Maharshi (1879-1950) was a renowned Indian sage and spiritual teacher who is widely regarded as one of the most important figures in the spiritual history of India. He was born Venkataraman Iyer in Tiruchuzhi, Tamil Nadu, India.
At the age of 16, Ramana had a profound spiritual experience in which he experienced a sense of inner peace and self-realization. He left his family and worldly possessions and travelled to the holy hill of Arunachala, where he spent the next several years in intense meditation and self-inquiry.
Ramana’s teachings emphasized the importance of self-inquiry and the realization of the true nature of the self.
