Yin yoga sequence that targets the kidney meridian
- Child’s Pose: Start on your hands and knees and bring your big toes together. Sit back on your heels and stretch your arms forward. Stay in this pose for 2-3 minutes, feeling a stretch in your hips and lower back.
- Sphinx Pose: Lie on your belly and prop yourself up on your elbows. Stay in this pose for 2-3 minutes, feeling a stretch in your lower back and kidneys.
- Saddle Pose: Sit with your legs bent and your feet on the floor behind you. Slowly lower your back onto a bolster or blocks, keeping your feet on the floor. Stay in this pose for 3-5 minutes, feeling a stretch in your quadriceps, hips, and lower back.
- Dragon Pose: Come onto your hands and knees and step your right foot forward between your hands. Lower your left knee to the floor and slide your right foot forward, bringing your right shin parallel to the front of the mat. Stay in this pose for 2-3 minutes, feeling a stretch in your hips and groin. Repeat on the other side.
- Wide-Legged Forward Fold: Stand with your feet wide apart and fold forward, reaching your hands towards the floor or using props for support. Stay in this pose for 3-5 minutes, feeling a stretch in your hamstrings and lower back.
- Reclining Twist: Lie on your back and bring your knees into your chest. Extend your arms out to the sides, palms facing down. Drop your knees to the right and look to the left, staying for 2-3 minutes. Repeat on the other side.
These Yin yoga poses can help release tension in the kidney meridian, which can support the kidneys’ function of regulating fluid balance, electrolyte balance, and blood pressure. Remember to breathe deeply and hold each pose for a few minutes, allowing your body to relax and release tension.
