What is Tolkappiyam?
Tolkappiyam is a Tamil grammar text that is believed to have been written around 2,000 years ago. It is considered to be one of the oldest surviving works of Tamil literature and is an important source of information about the language, literature, and culture of ancient Tamil Nadu. The text is divided into three sections: Ezhuttadikaram (on writing), Soladikaram (on words), and Poruladikaram (on meaning). Tolkappiyam provides guidelines for the proper use of Tamil language, including grammar, syntax, and literary conventions. It also includes discussions on ethics, aesthetics, and the nature of the universe.
