What is Dvapara Yuga?

  • Dvapara Yuga is the third of the four yugas or ages described in Hindu cosmology. According to Hindu tradition, each yuga lasts for a specific period of time and is characterized by certain qualities and events. Dvapara Yuga is said to have lasted for 864,000 years and is believed to have ended around 5,000 years ago, marking the beginning of the current yuga, Kali Yuga.
  • In Dvapara Yuga, it is believed that people were more devoted to religious practices and rituals than in the previous Treta Yuga. The Vedas were studied and practiced extensively during this time, and many sages and seers emerged who contributed to the development of Hindu philosophy and spirituality.
  • According to Hindu mythology, Dvapara Yuga is associated with the god Lord Vishnu, who is believed to have incarnated as Krishna during this period. The epic poem Mahabharata, which tells the story of the war between the Pandavas and Kauravas, also takes place during this yuga.
