What is Plavini Pranayama?

  • Plavini Pranayama is a type of yogic breathing technique that involves filling the stomach with air, similar to abdominal breathing, and then swallowing air, allowing it to pass into the esophagus and into the stomach. This technique is said to have a cleansing effect on the digestive system and can help to alleviate digestive problems like constipation and indigestion.

To practice Plavini Pranayama, follow these steps:

  • Sit in a comfortable cross-legged position with your spine straight and your eyes closed.
  • Take a few deep breaths, relaxing your body and focusing your mind on your breath.
  • Begin to inhale deeply through your nose, filling your stomach with air.
  • Hold your breath for a few seconds with your stomach still full of air.
  • Swallow the air down into your stomach, allowing it to pass through your esophagus.
  • Hold the air in your stomach for a few seconds before exhaling through your nose.
  • Repeat the process several times, gradually increasing the length of each inhale, hold, and exhale.
  • It is important to practice Plavini Pranayama with awareness and sensitivity, listening to your body and never forcing the breath. If you experience any discomfort or pain, stop the practice and consult with a qualified yoga teacher or healthcare provider.
