Yoga in India

  • Yoga has its roots in India and has been practiced in the country for thousands of years. It is considered an integral part of India’s rich cultural heritage and spiritual traditions. Many ancient Indian texts, including the Vedas, Upanishads, and the Bhagavad Gita, contain references to the practice of yoga and its benefits.
  • Today, India remains one of the best places in the world to learn and practice yoga. There are numerous yoga schools, ashrams, and retreat centers across the country that offer yoga teacher training programs, workshops, and retreats. Many of these centers are located in scenic and peaceful environments, such as the Himalayan foothills, Goa’s beaches, or the banks of the Ganges River.
  • India also hosts the International Day of Yoga on June 21 every year, which was established by the United Nations General Assembly in 2014. The event aims to raise awareness about the benefits of yoga and encourage people worldwide to adopt it as a lifestyle practice.
