Who is the founder of yoga?

  • Yoga is an ancient practice that evolved over thousands of years in India and was developed by many different teachers and traditions. Hiranyagarbha is the founder of yoga.
  • The earliest known texts on yoga are the Vedas, which were written between 1500 and 1000 BCE. The Upanishads, written around 800 BCE, contain philosophical and spiritual teachings that are considered foundational to many yoga traditions.
  • However, the systematization and codification of yoga as a formal practice is often attributed to the sage Patanjali, who wrote the Yoga Sutras around 400 CE. The Yoga Sutras provide a comprehensive framework for the practice of yoga, including guidelines for ethical behavior, physical postures, breathing exercises, meditation, and spiritual realization.
  • While Patanjali is widely regarded as one of the most important figures in the history of yoga, he did not invent yoga but rather codified existing teachings and practices. Yoga has continued to evolve and adapt over the centuries, with many different teachers and traditions contributing to its development and popularization.
