What is Synergist muscle?

  • Synergist muscles are the muscles that work together with the agonist muscles to create movement around a joint. They help to stabilize the joint and control the movement produced by the agonist muscle. Synergist muscles often work in groups, with each muscle contributing to a specific aspect of the movement.
  • For example, in a bicep curl exercise, the bicep muscle is the agonist muscle that contracts to lift the weight. The synergist muscles, such as the brachialis and brachioradialis, work together with the bicep to help control the movement and stabilize the elbow joint.
  • Synergist muscles are important for creating efficient and coordinated movement. When they work together with the agonist muscle, they help to ensure that the movement is smooth and controlled, reducing the risk of injury and improving overall performance.
