What is Kriya Yoga?

  • Kriya Yoga is a meditation technique that was introduced to the West by the Indian yogi Paramahansa Yogananda. It is a spiritual practice that involves a series of techniques for controlling the breath, energy, and mind in order to attain a state of deep meditation and spiritual realization.
  • The term “kriya” means action or movement, and Kriya Yoga is based on the idea that spiritual progress can be achieved through specific actions or practices. The techniques of Kriya Yoga are designed to help the practitioner purify the mind and body, balance the energies within the body, and awaken the spiritual centers or chakras.
  • Kriya Yoga involves a specific set of practices that are taught in a progressive manner, with each practice building on the previous one. These practices include various breathing exercises, physical postures, and meditation techniques, all of which are aimed at increasing self-awareness and spiritual realization.
  • The ultimate goal of Kriya Yoga is to awaken the practitioner’s inner spiritual power, or kundalini, which is believed to lie dormant at the base of the spine. Once the kundalini is awakened, it rises up through the chakras and eventually merges with the universal consciousness.
  • Kriya Yoga is considered to be a powerful and transformative practice that can lead to spiritual growth, inner peace, and a deeper connection with the divine. However, it is important to learn Kriya Yoga from a qualified teacher who can provide guidance and support throughout the practice.
